Mr Asumu carried out his basic surgical training in Manchester in the early 1990s. He gained the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993 following which he entered the higher training programme in Orthopaedic Surgery, once again in Manchester. The last year of his specialist training was devoted to a fellowship in knee surgery.

He was appointed consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at the Royal Oldham Hospital in 2000. He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the knee, providing an acute knee injury service to the local population.

In addition to elective orthopaedic surgery, Mr Asumu has an interest in long bone trauma, a field in which he has lectured extensively and also developed minimally invasive surgical techniques.

He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association as well as British MENSA.
